Toxic by A.C. Bextor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I am now officially "inTOXICated"
This book is definitely TOXIC!!
Don't you love it when you one click books and say "I gotta read that book ASAP"? I knew this book would be brilliant and I cannot believe it took me three weeks to finally get to read it. WOW well worth the wait!
AC Bextor is a gifted story teller. I am astounded that Toxic, book three in the Lights of Peril series, takes place all in one day. Now this is amazing writing on the authors behalf. Not once was I bored and not once did I stop reading this book once I started. Actually I lie. I did stop - only to message the author to say she made me cry again!!!
My tears were definitely not the same tears I shed for the first book. No my tears were because of the way this author writes - her way with words made me feel every ounce of hurt, heart break and happiness. Toxic is definitely (in my opinion) the best of The Lights of Peril Series. THE BEST.
Also I she'd tears for Shame's abused childhood. His story was truly heartbreaking, but honestly in a good way. Reading this book has been an amazing experience.
Shame was bruised and broken by his violent past. Throughout the book he questions his capabilities to be a good husband, father and provider. He's haunted by his past and is scared of turning out like his father.
Taking this trip down memory lane with Shame made me understand so much more about him. His journey from an abused child and teenager and then to an adult who became a member of Peril’s MC. But most importantly he became the man who allowed Mace the one person who loved him most, to love him fully.
Yes the pain, the suffering and the loss that Shame endured was heartbreaking but he did find happiness with Mace. So in the end his pain was worth it. My favourite quote from this book would have to be: ..........
”This life that you’ve given me is more than I ever thought possible. You’re everything I’ve ever needed, and f%#% if you didn’t always give that to me, even when I didn’t deserve it.”
Holy Shit AC Bextor, I honestly cannot believe you made me cry AGAIN!!
